About Us

Independent Living Centers are typically non-residential, private, non-profit, consumer-controlled, community-based organizations providing services and advocacy by and for persons with all types of disabilities. Their goal is to assist individuals with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential within their families and communities. Also, Independent Living Centers serve as a strong advocacy voice on a wide range of national, state and local issues. They work to assure physical and programmatic access to housing, employment, transportation, communities, recreational facilities, and health and social services.

Independent Living Cente (CIL)is run by the board of directors. All the directors are Persons with Severe Disabilities. There are 5 departments of the IL Center. They are: Management Department, Program Department, Advocacy Department, Attendant Department, Communication and Information Department, Finance Department, Technical Support Department and Peer Counseling Department. Besides this, the Advisory board from the high level planners, policy makers, government officers, Politicians, Civil Societies, Professionals are selected as the Advisory board committee. Along this, there is executive board committee, general members and hundreds of Consumers Persons with Disabilities.

The Independent Living Center is constantly looking for special people who are willing to share their time, talents, and energy. Volunteers are an important part of the ILC. Areas in which they are utilized are: home delivery services, attendants, receptionist, social activities, Programs and fund raising activities.

There is only one ILC’s in the Nepal. ILC is supported by the IL Centers Japan, some local organizations and government agencies. If you want to know of an ILC not listed here, please let us know.
